Amy Bacon is a local wedding planner we have worked closely with on several weddings. Her team is always such a pleasure to work with, and she is a wonderful coordinator. Here are some interesting facts she shared in a recent chat we had. Read the interview below.
- What makes your service unique?
Anyone who knows me or my company knows that I treat all of my clients like family because they are! When someone signs a contract with any of the CBAB planners, they are inviting us to be a part of one of the most special days of their lives. Regardless of if it’s for a wedding, an anniversary party or a proposal, we don’t take the opportunity to be a part of these moments lightly. We make it very clear to our clients that they are important to us and will continue to be important to us after the last guest leaves and all of the confetti has fallen. Our clients are a part of the CBAB family for life and we are blessed to be a part of their lives as well.
- Tell us about your team?
I have surrounded myself with some of the most talented and loving women that the Phoenix market has to offer. We all work hard when we play and are playful when we work. Whether it’s a Sun Devil, a glamour girl, a dog mommy or a craft beer expert, we have a little of everything on our team! As everyone who does events can tell you, in the anxious excitement before an event takes place it’s important to have someone who knows you well enough that they can read your mind and jump in when help is needed; that’s what our team does for each other. We trust each other and can lean on one another, both at events and in real life. I love my beautiful ladies!
- What do you love about planning Arizona weddings?
Many markets have a single look to offer when it comes to venues and the designs that match them. Phoenix is thankfully not one of those markets. We have venues that are modern, classic, unique, whimsical, industrial, opulent, simple, and eccentric. You name it, Phoenix has a space to fit the design you have in mind. When we meet with a bride or groom, we have multiple venues we can show them in both their price range and their dream vision. Of course any great designer can transform the space they are given to work with but it is such a thrill to walk into a room with a client and hear, “This is exactly what I wanted!”
- The best advice you would give to future brides?
Whether our client is a bride or a groom, we always tell them not to stop dating just because they are planning a wedding. Once the flowers are thrown out, the cake eaten and the linens returned, you’ll be spending the rest of your life with this person! Go out every so often and have a rule of “NO WEDDING TALK” for the entire time. You are both still going through everyday experiences that you share together and that you need to tell each other about so you can continue to grow and stay connected as a couple. You won’t be a bride or a groom forever; make sure you keep the love of your life as the focus of your life, not just your co-host of a big party!
- What inspired you to get into the wedding/coordinating industry?
I've always loved a good party, even as a child. Seeing all the details and watching things come together brings me such joy. When I left corporate America, it just was a natural transition. Who knew I could be one of the lucky ones and do what I love for a career? Now I get to be involved in couples’ special days, from when they decide on their colors to when the final guest heads home. Every detail is important to my clients; I’m honored to use my skills to bring their unique visions to life.
- What other events do you host?
Celebrations by Amy Bacon hosts celebrations of all shapes, sizes, and reasons. Our specialty is in weddings but we also do showers (bridal and baby), birthdays, anniversaries, engagement parties, proposals, and more. Whether it’s a retirement party or a 1st birthday bash, the host of an event deserves to feel as much like a guest as everyone else; we allow that to happen by taking away the stress and anxiety of the day.
- What are some upcoming bridal/wedding trends for fall/winter?
Outside of the box lighting and unique flower designs seem to be growing in popularity for the upcoming seasons. Centerpieces won't just be sitting in the middle of the tables and uplighting won’t be the only source of light for our design-forward clients. We also hope to see the trend of colored wedding dresses continue! They add a unique pop to any event, traditional or contemporary.
- How long have you been in the industry and how has it changed since
I have been in the events industry for just over 12 years now and have owned CBAB for four years as of July. I never planned on running my own business but I love it! The biggest part of the industry that's changed since I started is design and how quickly trends turn over. Pinterest helps couples determine what they love and what they hate which makes designing for us easier to communicate. However, Pinterest can get brides and grooms in trouble with too many ideas. Our goal is to keep the look cohesive and avoid cookie cutter weddings. We encourage clients to use Pinterest as inspiration for their unique look and not to simple copy-paste the ideas they see.
